A musical education, preface part 2: list and rules

The list of groups, together with the ‘friend’ who suggested them, currently stands as set out below.  Where a particular album has been recommended, I’ve also indicated that.  Where someone has suggested more than two groups/albums, I’ve taken the first two (except in relation to Grampus and Mavis where I’d foolishly started out by asking for five recommendations):
  1. The Who (suggested by Grampus)
  2. Springsteen (Grampus)
  3. Pink Floyd (Grampus)
  4. REM (Grampus)
  5. Led Zeppelin (Grampus)
  6. Flogging Molly (Mavis)
  7. Frank Turner (Mavis)
  8. Barenaked Ladies (Mavis)
  9. Clash (Mavis)
  10. Saw Doctors (Mavis)
  11. Alestorm (Matt Deaville)
  12. Black Sabbath (Matt Deaville)
  13. Aerosmith (Matt Hurst)
  14. Radiohead - the Bends (Emma-Jane Rosenberg)
  15. Radiohead - Kid A (Emma-Jane Rosenberg)
  16. Noir Desir (Virginie Friend)
  17. Pigalle (Virgine Friend)
  18. Blodwyn Pig - A Head Rings Out (Dad)
  19. Gary Moore - Still Got the Blues (Dad)
I will listen to and report back on one album a week, work allowing.  The Who (Now and Then) and Springsteen (Darkness on the Edge of Town) will be my first two listens since I’ve already bought them, after that I’m going to randomise in order to avoid - assuming that the randomiser doesn’t hate me - consecutive weeks of metal.  I’ve already listened to the Who and will report on that as soon as I’ve a little time.
If anyone hasn’t suggested two albums yet, I’m happy to continue adding to the list …

  1. "Still Got the Blues" is good, so i agree with your Dad on that one.

"unique" choice of Radiohead albums there. but which i mean "wot no 'OK Computer'?"

  2. It was "England Keep My Bones" for Frank Turner, "London Calling" for the Clash, "Stunt" for the Barenaked Ladies, "if this is rock and roll I want my money back" by the Saw Doctors, and "Druken Lullabies" by Flogging Molly.

Shame you skipped "the men who will not be blamed for nothing" "Now this is what I call steampunk Volume 1".

But respect to Matt for Alestorm - I look forward to your review of that..... I only count three metal albums on your list in total (both Matts suggestions and of course Led Zepplin). So back to back metal will be unfortunate.....
